Here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware, we value the safety of both mentors and mentees.
Parent Safety Training: Big Brothers Big Sisters of America requests all parents complete a “Pre-Match” training course. The course is approximately 1 hour long. It is a recorded webinar that covers the following:
Parent Safety Training: Big Brothers Big Sisters of America requests all parents complete a “Pre-Match” training course. The course is approximately 1 hour long. It is a recorded webinar that covers the following:
- Ground rules/program rules
- The mentor’s obligations and appropriate roles
- Expectations for the match relationship and relationship development styles
- What match support is and why we do it
- Child safety/youth protection
- Ages and stages of child development
- The match closure process
Volunteer Training: The safety of our Littles is our priority! All applicants to become a BBBSDE mentor must undergo:
- A written or online application
- A criminal background/DE Child Protection Registry check and three references
- Mentor training (individual or group)
For the safety of both youth and volunteers:
- Visits are to take place in the local community
- Mentors are not allowed to take Mentees into their homes or overnight stays
- While we love to see our Mentors and Mentees enjoy activities, all trips should remain in the state of Delaware
