Resources for Mentors

By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community, we are working towards our shared goal of helping every child achieve success.

We know that kids who have a Big do better in school, are less likely to use drugs & alcohol and have more positive relationships.  To ensure the best outcomes for our Littles, our job is to provide ongoing supervision & support for all our “Matches”.  This sets us apart from other mentoring programs.

In addition to the BBBS  training (online & in-person) you have already participated in, we recommend the following resources – which are appropriate for Parents and Guardians, as well as Bigs.

THE COMMON CORE is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA). These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. More than 45 states, including Delaware have adopted the Common Core Standards.  Understanding the Common Core standards for your student’s grade level, can help you provide hands-on assistance with schoolwork.

– The Delaware PTA has very helpful grade-level guides to the Common Core, which are perfect for helping Parents and Mentors! be a part of their student’s success.  You may view and download the Guides (for FREE) at http://delawarepta.org/common-core/common-core-standards/parent-guides/

Additional helpful information can be found at: “Roadmaps to the Common Core Standards” at http://cgcs.schoolwires.net/domain/36 for specific information for helping students at each grade level.
